This enjoyable, mainly fortnightly, cross phase Drama course (total
24 hours), will help you to significantly improve your Drama subject
knowledge and your Drama teaching skills. It will improve your ability to
use Drama as a pedagogy, in English and across the curriculum,
whatever your current level of expertise
This is an exciting and unusual opportunity to work practically, regularly,
creatively and in depth, as part of a supportive and reflective cross
phase group.
This longer course is open to teachers in all types and phases of
school, teaching assistants, theatre educators and youth workers or any
other professional interested in using Drama in their work.
The course will cover : The Drama Contract, Strategies and Conventions (including Teacher in Role, Forum Theatre, Image Theatre, Mantle of the Expert), planning and evaluating drama, Drama for Writing, Neuro-drama, Active Shakespeare, Working from Text, Image, Sound, Movement and Artefacts.
Lesson observation: There will be opportunity to observe, discuss and evaluate a live KS2 drama lesson.
Target audience: Teachers, teaching assistants, theatre educators and youth workers, or any other professional interested in using drama as a way of actively improving learning, personal, social, emotional development and thinking skills.
Course Leader: Patrice Baldwin
Patrice Baldwin is a renowned ‘drama for learning’ specialist. She is World President of the International Drama Theatre and Education Association (IDEA), Chair of National Drama and author of several significant drama books (including ‘With Drama in Mind’ and ‘School Improvement Through Drama)’ She was a Primary Headteacher, LA Adviser and School Improvement Partner.

Course Leader: Rob John
Rob John is a theatre director and playwright. He has written plays for youth theatre, including “Living With Lady Macbeth” and “The Spaceman”. He is a scripwriter for BBC Education and has written several afternoon plays for Radio 4. He was Vice Principal of Paston College. Rob is also an accomplished musician.
Patrice and Rob have recently co-written, ‘Inspiring Writing Through Drama’ (published August 2012). |
